Welcome to the NEW website of the 31st Alabama and 17th
Iowa Reenactors. We are a family oriented group that portrays
one of the greatest eras of time by reenacting the American Civil
War. We are Living Historians. We hope to help people learn
about the American Civil War by showing what happened while
having fun at the same time. We enjoy food, fellowship, and lots
of fun. We get to meet lots of interesting and sometimes funny
people.

Welcome!
Joining the 31st Alabama Infantry

Re-enacting with the 31st Alabama Infantry combines a love of history with theater, fellowship, and the escape
from the stresses of the 21st century life.

Ours is a non-political, sociable organization that prides itself on being professional but also having a good time. We
must note that we are
NOT a racist radical, fringe group and are NOT associated with hate groups or any other
affiliate.

We are merely a group of families that enjoy acting, teaching, camping, and cooking together. We are Christian and
Family oriented.

No previous experience in the military is required for membership.

All you need to start is the desire to learn, a willingness to help educate the public on this era in our Nation's history,
the ability to have fun, and some free weekends.

With us, the ability to "try before you buy" ensures that you won't invest a lot of money, only to find out that
reenacting doesn't meet your needs.

If you have questions about reenacting, someone else probably had questions as well. So we have compiled a list of
frequently asked questions about the hobby. Check out the
Questions page for all the answers you may need.
We are members of the Alabama Division of Civil War Reenactors. You can check out that

In Memory of our Major Bobby Bawcum   September 12, 1958 - August 14, 2007
Bobby will be
greatly missed.
He brought so
much into our
lives. We will
miss him.
Words can not
express what
he meant to us.
On January 5, 2008, we the 31st Alabama, had our
company meeting in Goodwater, AL. It was decided that the
unit needs to have a Captain on the field at events. However,
we felt that Bobby Bawcum should always have the higher
rank of the unit. He has been made Major. He is always with
us in thoughts.
